What is the best time of year to visit Tanzania for a safari and beach combination?
The best time for wildlife viewing is generally the dry season (June to October). However, for a perfect safari and beach combo, the period from July to October or the drier, shoulder season months (like January and February) work well. The timing also depends on your goals: if you want to see the Great Migration river crossings, book for July–September. If you prefer lush scenery and lower prices, the Green Season (Nov–Mar) is ideal.
Since you are based in the Lake Zone, what unique experiences do you offer that the standard Northern Circuit tour does not?
Our Lake Zone base allows us to offer truly unique and authentic tours. We specialize in Lake Victoria exploration (island hopping, traditional fishing), cultural immersion with the Sukuma and Zinza tribes, and accessing the remote, low-traffic wilderness areas of Western Serengeti and Rubondo Island National Park for exclusive game viewing experiences unavailable through other operators.
How long does a typical safari tour last, and can I combine the Northern Circuit with Zanzibar?
A classic Northern Circuit safari covering Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Manyara typically lasts 5 to 7 days. Yes, combining the Northern Circuit with Zanzibar is highly popular! We specialize in seamless, efficient transfers from Arusha or Serengeti airstrips directly to the Zanzibar or Pemba islands, usually requiring an additional 3 to 5 days for the beach extension.
What kind of accommodations do you use, and do they cater to dietary restrictions?
We handpick accommodations ranging from luxury tented camps and lodges in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro to carefully selected boutique hotels in Stone Town and unique sustainable lodges in the Lake Zone. All our partner accommodations are high-quality, and we can absolutely cater to all major dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies) provided you inform us during the booking process.
Is Tanzania safe for tourists, and what measures do you take to ensure guest safety during game drives?
Yes, Tanzania is highly stable and safe for tourism. Your safety is our top priority. All our safari vehicles are well-maintained 4x4s equipped with radios/satellite phones. Our guides are licensed, highly experienced local experts trained in first aid and responsible wildlife viewing protocols. We follow all park regulations strictly to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience.
What is involved in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and which route do you recommend for first-time climbers?
Climbing Kilimanjaro involves a multi-day trek (5-9 days) and requires preparation and a good fitness level. We highly recommend the Lemosho or Machame routes for first-time climbers, as they offer the best acclimatization profiles and beautiful scenery, maximizing your chances of reaching the summit safely. Our treks are fully supported with professional mountain guides, cooks, and porters.
What currency should I use, and are credit cards widely accepted in Tanzania?
The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but US Dollars (USD) printed after 2006 are widely accepted for large expenses (safari fees, tips, major purchases). For smaller items and local markets, TZS is preferred. Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted at major lodges and hotels but rarely in small shops or remote areas. We advise carrying cash for tips and souvenirs.
How does my booked safari contribute to conservation and local communities, as mentioned on your About Page?
As a responsible operator, a portion of your booking directly supports our identified community projects, particularly in the villages surrounding the Lake Victoria region, focusing on education and sustainable enterprise. Additionally, your park fees contribute directly to TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority for vital anti-poaching and conservation initiatives.
What should I expect regarding tipping in Tanzania for guides and lodge staff?
Tipping is a common and highly appreciated practice in the service industry here. We provide detailed guidelines in your pre-departure pack, but generally: expect to tip your safari guide $20–$30 USD per day per group, and lodge staff/camp crew around $10–$20 USD per day, split among the team. Tipping should always reflect your satisfaction with the service.
I want a cultural experience. Beyond the Lake Zone, where else can I engage with local tribes?
Tanzania offers incredible cultural diversity. In addition to our specialist Lake Zone community visits, we arrange respectful, guided interactions with the Maasai tribes near the Ngorongoro and Tarangire areas, and visits to the Hadzabe (Bushmen) near Lake Eyasi, offering profound insights into ancient local traditions.
